Today (July 15, 2007) we did tessellations. Taking notecards, we made designs, traced them and and had a tessellation in the end.
We as a group learned about the female mathematician, Emilie du Chatelet. Emilie married up, and she had tutors that helped her in math. When she took up these studies, she fell out with her family. Once she wanted to go into a lobby that was used by scientists and mathematicians, but women were not allowed in here. Wanting to go in, she went home and dressed as a man. Emilie died at the age of 44.
Later today, a speaker will be coming in to discuss polynomiography with us. we will have crafts and go bowling along with a movie afterwards.
Today (7/16/07), we worked with algebra tiles, Pastal's Triangle, and Fibonacci.Fibonacci numbers are 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55 and so on. We also learned that some irrational numbers are known as phi and as the golden mean/ratio. The number .61... means that that number is a golden ratio. Also, we learned that shell shapes work with the golden rectangle idea.
Today my friends and I were having a discussion on the book Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. We were talking about random things that delt with Edward, Jacob, Bella, and the rest of the Cullens. It was all very intersting.
Later today we will be working on our crafts, in other words our memory boxes. Then after dinner we will go swimming. Finally, to end the night, we will play board games til it is time to go to sleep.
Today (7/18/07), was my friend's birthday. We were talking about Twilight and New Moon again, and we were trying to draw the two main characters... mine did not turn out so well. We had a great time making our kites together.
Today in class, we were looking at fractals and sierpinski's triangle. Then we were trying to crack the codes. Can you crack this?

The formula for finding how many triangles that are not shaded is 3^x and the formula for finding the area of the non-shaded triangles is (3/4)^x. 3^x will go on forever into the infinities as with the stages(x), while(3/4)^x will decrease but will never equal zero.

This will be my last entry. Today we were doing origami and I was the first to finish it, again. We voted for our polynomials and Alexandria won!!!!!! I loved her polynomials.
Later today we will be having a karaoke night and we will be going home tomorrow.
